Bronx Zoo - June 11, 2009 |
|
The Bronx Zoo is
beautiful—lots of renovated historic buildings, neat architecture, sweet
exhibits. The girls loved the Bug Carousel—as far as I know, it's the only one
of its kind (complete with a dung beetle and pile of poo). The sea lion show
was a good one, and Gabe spent a lot of time shooting pics at Tiger Mountain. While
enjoying a picnic lunch with our friends John, Kim, and Conner, we had a
perfect view of the giraffe habitat. Little months-old baby giraffe Margaret
put on a show, racing around the yard and picking fights with the resident
peacock. The Congo Gorilla Forest is a phenomenal exhibit. So many beautiful
animals and lush landscaping. You watch a short film about gorillas on a huge
screen in a small theater, and then the screen splits in two to reveal…real
gorillas! Heaps of them! Young, old, sleeping, playing, eating, climbing. The
best gorilla exhibit we've ever seen. Then it was off to Central Park—another
two-fer day!
