It's tough being a zoo so close to San Diego, but LA seems to be holding its own. They have a lot of neat animals and some cool new exhibits. We enjoyed watching a massive hippo, a majestic lion, and some fun gorillas. The highlight of our day, though, was most definitely the chimpanzees. I don't know that we've ever seen a more entertaining troop of chimps. They had divided up into two gangs (seriously—they were even flashing gang signs!) and chased each other, hit each other with sticks, and screamed at each other. Then they'd sit and pout for awhile and then start up again. We hated to leave their exhibit because we didn't want to miss any fun! Apes are fascinating creatures!
