National Zoo - June 13, 2009

ImageThe National Zoo is one of the few free zoos in the country and one of only four zoos with giant pandas. We've seen them at three zoos now with just San Diego to go. (Thankfully, it's not giraffes that can only be found at four zoos!) We were looking forward to the famous O-Line—a 490-feet long, 50-feet high cable where orangutans can swing or walk over your head. But, while a couple orangs teased us, none of them climbed up to the O-Line while we were there. Bummer. We saw a lot of fun little monkeys, a baby gorilla and an elephant patiently getting a pedicure! After the zoo, we headed into the city and took pics in front of the Washington monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Veterans Memorial, and the White House. We even caught a glimpse of the First Family walking across the lawn—with pics to prove it!
