The Maryland Zoo - June 14, 2009

ImageThe zoo's new prairie dog exhibit opened two days before our visit, and we had fun watching the cute little critters scamper to and fro. The girls enjoyed the tram ride to Africa where we saw all kinds of exotic animals—and fed giraffes! We didn't think they were going to come up to the feeding deck, but when we stopped by the second time, they were ready to eat. They have a really pretty exhibit. We watched a cute baby elephant playing with his enrichment toys and pestering his mama. Besides the giraffes and baby elephant, one of the highlights of our day was the chimpanzee exhibit. The adorable apes were in hyper-mode—wrestling, hugging, running, playing, mating. We stood and watch them for a good twenty minutes—smiling, giggling, gaping, blushing (us, not the chimps). Mature, I know. After a fun, full day, we were ready for the seven-hour trip home. Six zoos in five days? Not bad. Not bad at all.
