A local hospital was holding a scavenger hunt at the zoo that day, so it was an added bonus for our girlies. We loved the new Safari SkyRide, which will eventually carry riders over the African savanna. (we got to see a construction site) We also rode the train and the River Ride. The two huge Sumatran orangutans were our favorite animal, and we enjoyed the sea lion show, which is something you don't see every day. Besides getting attacked (not kidding) by a herd of hungry pygmy goats, our day was pretty peaceful and fun.

We spent Labor Day at the Indy Zoo where I met Kelly, another blog friend, for the first time. Our whole family fell in love with her, and we had the most delightful day. One of the highlights was meeting Allen and Jon, the authors of America's Best Zoos, who were there for a book signing. Some of our favorite animals were the walruses (our first on the zoo tour), dolphins (a show!), koalas (on their last day at the zoo), and baboons (including two babies). We got to feed our first giraffes! And touch an elephant's rear end! A great day all around.

We were pretty tired puppies by the time we got to Pittsburgh, our fourth zoo in four days, but we got to see some really neat animals, including a baby tiger cub. My personal favorite was a four-week-old elephant. She was so tiny (relatively speaking) and spry, weaving in and out of her mama's legs. I wish I could've pulled up a chair and watched her for hours. The Zoo has a great aquarium and polar bear exhibit. Nina cried when we piled into the car to head home. "Mommy, I wanna go more zooooos!"
